Q: Do you house women without children?

A: No, our program is specifically designed for women with children. However, we do take women who are without children but are currently pregnant. If you are not pregnant and do not have children, please call the Chicago DV Hotline (1-877-863-6338) to ask about other recovery options.

Q: Can you provide counseling services to someone who does not live at House of the Good Shepherd?

A: No, our counseling services are only for current or former clients.

Q: Do you offer emergency housing?

A: We cannot provide emergency housing. If you are in an emergency situation, please call the Chicago DV Hotline (1-877-863-6338) to find a safe place to go.

Q: Is there a wish list for what donations you accept?

A: Yes! You can find it on our website here.

Q: Do you accept electronics?

A: We can accept small electronics (toasters, coffee makers, radios, flat screen computers, printers) that are in good working condition. We cannot accept large televisions, computer monitors or other large electronics, and cannot accept anything broken. Please be sure that your donation includes any cords, software, manuals or other items we will need for our clients to use the donation.

Q: Do you accept furniture?

A: We do accept most furniture, but please call ahead to schedule a drop-off or pick-up. 773-935-3434.

Q: Do you accept toys?

A: We are blessed to receive a great deal of toys throughout the year. If the toy is not “like new”, please consider donating it to another organization in need. We also cannot accept any toys that contain or resemble weapons or violent characters or images.
